Muskegon Main Street Spring Cleanup 2005
70 volunteers made the 2nd annual Main Street Cleanup a success again this year. The volunteers gathered at 9:00 a.m. in Hackley Park and dispersed to tackle various projects within the Main Street District. Members of the Whitehall Activities Club took responsibility for the Third St. corridor and picked up trash and pulled weeds from the storefronts and parking lots along the corridor. Representatives of Lowe’s took on the planters in front of the Hackley Library and after cleaning them up, called for flowers from the their retail location, that were promptly planted and now adorn the library entrance.
Friends of the Frauenthal were busy cleaning the streetscape along Third Street in front of the Frauenthal. They also ventured into the parking lots which lay across the street and cleaned up debris and picked weeds. A third grade class from McLaughlin Elementary were assigned the City parking lot across from Walker arena and made quick work of the weeds and leaves that they came across. The employees of Details and Design took on the Western end of W. Western and spruced up the shops and residences.
After all the hard work was done the volunteers enjoyed a lunch provided by G and L Chili Dogs, and Plumb’s. All in all, a great time with a diverse group of volunteers all committed to making the downtown the place to be this summer!!
